Not-for-profits of Madeline Island

Madeline Island Community Garden

The Madeline Island Community Garden was founded in 2009 by the former pastor of St. John’s UCC, Marina Lachecki, with a small group of dedicated volunteers who saw a garden as a place to not only grow food but to heal and create community. That mission continues to this day in the garden’s outdoor and greenhouse growing spaces, with individual growing plots, available for rent on a yearly basis, as well as communal areas where a variety of crops are grown for harvest share members and to supply fresh, local produce to the food shelf at St. John’s UCC. Whether you would like grow your own food in one of our rental plots, share in our harvest with a Harvest Share membership, volunteer at one of our work days, or make a tax- deductible donation, our garden has many opportunities for you to get involved! While the garden is on private property and not open to the public, we are happy to show people around who are interested in our programs or membership.
